Bleached Brows and Face Lace P2

While in recent years, the bushy brow has been totally in with models such as Cara Delevingne leading the trend, theres been a shift with many models, catwalks and even celebrities going the opposite direction by bleaching their brows. Celebrities include Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and even Katy Perry as you can see below:

It wasn't until SS15 Paris Fashion Week where show after show brows were disappearing. Even model Cara Delevingne's iconic brow weren't safe. For this look you could either use bleach or a mixture of concealer and powder to give a similar illusion. Below are some of images from fashion week with model's sporting the look.

For a similar look to the above I first brushed up the brow with brow gel. Next I put some of the Dermacolour concealer on a mascara wand in the shade D32. This is a warm red colour which then conteracts the blue colour of the brows. Once this was done I dusted the brows very slightly with a colourless powder then went over the top in a colour that matched my model's skin tone once again on a mascara wand. I was careful to only brush both these colours through the hairs and not onto the skin as this is where it can become fake looking.

To go even further, many editoral looks use models with no eyebrows and there is an easy way to cheat this with a simple glue stick. To recap on the previous lesson, I first brushed my model's brows and then used the glue stick against the natural growth of the hair. Next I brushed the brows upwards, making them really flat to the skin. I then used the gluestick again in an upwards direction. Any extra I used a cotton bud dipped in water to remove the water soluble gluestick. I lightly powdered the brow once the glue was dry, applied D32 with sponge, powdered and applied a concealer matching the model's skin and powdered once more. You can see below a more dramatic cover up I done on myself. Having used the spirit gum method in previous classes I was somewhat familar of the process of blocking the brows.

Having blocked eyebrows a couple lessons previous, I decided to recreate the look on myself. The only thing I done differently from class was instead of using a colourless powder to set the D32, I used a bright orange eyeshadow. I done this because I found that in the lesson, the blue tones of the eyebrow were still visible even under the D32. I think the use of the orange was a great addition and really helped to hide the brow. Another difference was the amount of glue I had to use. I was lucky in that my model had quite thin brows, however mine was very thick and stubbon so it was alot harder to really get them to lie flat. Overall, I think for my first attempts at using the glue stick method I done really well. I was happy with the result and I know that with more practise I'll be able to get the brow even flatter.

FACELACE

For our face lace lesson, we used a similar technique of covering the brows. However, instead of using the glue stick method like we did with Holly, we used spirit gum. I took some step by step images which you can see below. Instead of explaining the whole process again, you can see above how I block brows.

The concept of facelace was first created by makeup artist Phyllis Cohen who has worked with stars from Annie Lennox to David Bowie and Steve Strange. Thanks to her illustration background and MA fine art degree she created these intricate designs that only take minutes to apply. 'Today, the range of laces includes ornate masks that simply adhere to the skin, eye laces that flatter the eye with graceful lines or elaborate silhouettes as well as mehndoodles, which can be placed wherever you choose, and playsheets of small patterns which allow you easily to invent your own Face Lace designs'.

Below you can see my attempt:

I found this look a lot harder then I first expected and I think this was because I was improvising and didnt have a set look in my head. As a result you can see where I was hesistant and not as confident with my stokes. I feel the overall look is effective and gives off festival vibes and would be perfect for any festival or party if you were to change up the colours.
