i-D is a well known British magazine which focuses on elements of youth culture such as fashion music and art.
The magazine was first founded by former Vogue art director and designer Terry Jones in 1980 with the first issue being published as a hand stapled fanzine (a nonprofessional publication produced by fans of a particular cultural phenomenon) which was produced on a typewriter. Over the many years the magazine has been running it has evolved into a mature glossy mag but still keeps its sense of street style and youth culture.
The magazine is well known for its innovative photography and its this what has drawn me to this magazine in particular. The magazine pioneered the hybrid style of documentary/fashion photography called The Straight Up. "At first, these were of punks and new wave youth found on English streets and who were simply asked to stand against any nearby blank wall. The resulting pictures—the subjects facing the camera and seen from "top to toe"—are a vivid historical documentary photography archive, and have established the posed "straight up" as a valid style of documentary picture-making."
The magazine is also well known for its training of fresh talent and photographers such as Wolfgang Hillmans, Terry Richardson and Nick Knight who all started their careers at i-D. People who have appeared in i-D and on their covers include:

Covers feature a winking cover model, denoting the magazine's i-D typographic logo which on its side looks like a winking smiley face.
I love this magazine as since the 80s it has built a reputation for being a consistent source of inspiration for all involved in fashion culture, it is alternative and encourages creativity and has daring covers with daring and inspiring makeup looks.
