Bloomsbury Beauty at Burberry Proseum

The look for Burberry autumn/winter was inspired by cool British chicks, in particular the Bloomsbury girl. The whole collection, including the hair and makeup have a slightly artsy and boho feel.

Christopher Bailey was inspired by Charleston Bloomsbury, Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant – all artists who use free hand paint to decorate furniture lending itself to a free-spirited nature. This then flowed into the clothes design. Chic sheepskins were hand-painted with simple floral, leaves and abstract designs as were bags, shoes and belts.

The collection’s silhouette was unusual in that it was loose and the fabrics swished and moved as the models stormed the catwalk. Ultra light chiffon and scarves swirled around the models. Cinched belts were the only things that gave balance and structure to an otherwise delicate silhouette.

Headed up by makeup artist, Wendy Rowe, the makeup was very miminal and consisted of a soft aubergine eye and nude lips. The new Nude Blush Complete Eye Palette a simple purple-ish hue was added all over the eye and was blended out with the edges of her fingertips. The brow was strong as you can see being championed by model Cara Delevingne. This in turn added structure to the look that would otherwise be very soft. For the skin base ‘Fresh Glow in Golden Radiance’ and the new ‘Fresh Glow fluid foundation’ was used to give the skin and dewy, natural and radiant finish -Enhancing the skin rather than masking it.

"Using the new Nude Blush Complete Eye Palette, I freely applied the aubergine shades to give an impression of a dark eye, yet left lashes bare and lined the inner rim with the Stone Effortless Kohl to keep it feeling quite light and open. Using the new Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base Foundation, skin had a satin finish with a real-skin quality, and nails were painted with the new gorgeous shade for Autumn, Elderberry."- Wendy Rowe

While the hair was also kept pretty simple and looked ‘beautifully underdone’ and effortlessness. Head hair stylist Neil Moodie created his effortless locks with a detangling spray and a small amount of hair oil to give the hair a natural shine. A hair dryer with a diffuser attachment was then used to give the hair a windswept look.

Overall, despite the hair and makeup looks being very simple they leant themselves well to the whole idea of a boho and free-spirited vibe that the collection as a whole gives off.
