Zac Posen NYFW Spring/Summer 15

Elegant and feminine. Two words which instantly come to mind when looking at Zac Posen’s

Spring Summer Ready to Wear 15 collection. His vision was to enable women to dress elegantly, however at the same time simply.

When it came down to the general style of the clothing, unlike many of his previous collections the styles were simpler, the silhouettes were cleaner and the only colours he chose to use were red, black and white. He mentions the ‘general toning of volume and amping up of ease’. This is something that could also be said about the makeup used when compared to previous shows such as Autumn Winter 10 where the eyes were complex, dark and messy.

The beauty focus was luminous and glowing skin with a glossy eye, bright red lip and a shiny feminine pompadour.

MAKEUP: KABUKI FOR MAC COSMETICS

“Simplicity is its strength, which fits the mood this season’s collection” This is how head makeup artist Kabuki described the complementary makeup look for the show.

  1. He first toned the model’s skin with witch-hazel to get the skin very clean. Next he applied a diffusing clear primer all over the model’s skin.

  2. Next the skin was topped with a sheer layer of a warm toned MAC Face and Body Foundation around the perimeter of the face and across the nose and cheeks, warming up the skin.

  3. Something Special Cremeblend blush was then use on the cheeks, enhancing the warmth of the skin.

  4. Shine Mixing Medium was used as a highlighter on the tops of the cheekbones adding a beautiful glow.

  5. If the model’s had any blemishes showing through the foundation, Studio Finish Concealer was used on a small brush. While a peach coloured concealer was used to brighten under the eyes.

  6. A sheer layer of the Paint Pot Groundwork was applied to the eye. On top of this was a mixture of Gloss Texture and Reflects Pearl Glitter. Top and bottom lashes were then coated with a couple coats of Haute and Naughty Black Lash Mascara.

  7. When it came of creating the focal point of the look, the lips, Cherry Lip pencil was used to fill the lip and enhance the natural shape of the lip. Red Lip Mix was then used to over the top resulting in a deep orange/red semi matte finish.

HAIR: ODILE GILBERT FOR KERASTASE PARIS:

  1. Gilbert created a deep side part in the model’s dry hair. A large amount of Forme Fatale was then used on the top and sides of the hair, resulting in a super glossy look.

  2. Using a comb the hair was combed to the sides in an upward motion making sure it was tight against the head.

  3. Lift Vertige was added to the front portions of the head for volume. This was then combed in an upward swoop to create a ‘push wave’ which was then set using a hair drying.

  4. Keratine Thermique was put throughout the rest of the lengths of the hair to give it a wet look and the style was locked in place with Laque Noire.

Overall, I love the look of this collection - especially the makeup look as it is so iconic. Although the eyes were kept very natural I love the pop of the red lip and feel it complements the overall collection as it matches the colour scheme and ties both the makeup and the clothes together.
